    As a mechanism for intergovernmental economic cooperation, BIMP-EAGA has a framework in place for cooperation between and among the member countries at both national and subregional levels.

    Structure

    The BIMP-EAGA Leader’s Summit, Ministerial Meeting, and Senior Officials’ Meeting provide overall policies and strategic direction. These are supported by the national secretariats and the BIMP-EAGA Facilitation Center, which serves as the subregional secretariat.

    Leaders Summit

    • In the BIMP-EAGA Leaders Summit leaders of Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Philippines gather to discuss way forward in the BIMP-EAGA cooperation. The Summit is held bianually back to back with ASEAN Summit.

    Ministerial Meeting

    • Ministerial Meetingprovides sector-specific guidance aligned with the broad directions of the BIMP-EAGA Leaders in the selected areas such as transport, agriculture, and ICT. The Ministerial Meeting is held anually in coordination with the local governments.

    Senior Officials’ Meeting

    • The Senior Officials’ Meeting provides strategic guidance to the clusters and working groups at the annual strategic planning meeting with stakeholders. It also takes stock of the progress and accomplishments of sector strategies and projects.

    The Asian Development Bank

    • The Asian Development Bank, which assumed the role of BIMP-EAGA Development Advisor in 2002, takes part in the Summit, Ministerial Meetings, and Senior Officials’Meetings, as well as in meetings on selected sectors if necessary.
